What We Collect

When you upload an electricity bill, we temporarily process the file to extract consumption and billing figures. Uploaded files are stored only for the duration of analysis and automatically deleted within 2 hours. We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information.

How We Use Your Data

Bill data is used solely to generate your solar system recommendation. We do not sell, share, or retain your billing information after the analysis session ends.

Local Storage

We use your browser's localStorage to save your theme preference (dark/light mode) and your past analyses so you can revisit them. This data never leaves your device.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use WattAttack, for example which steps are completed and which features are used. Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data via cookies and may process data on Google's servers. No personally identifiable information (name, email, bill details) is included in analytics events. You can opt out using browser extensions such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising

We may display advertisements through Google AdSense to help support the development and maintenance of WattAttack. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on users' prior visits to our site or other websites. AdSense partners may set cookies to serve ads based on users' prior visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

Bill Processing

Text extraction from uploaded bills is handled by an AI model. Depending on server configuration this may be a self-hosted model or a third-party OCR service. In either case, bill images are not retained after processing unless you explicitly opt in for AI training (see below).

AI Training Data (Opt-In)

Both the home page analyzer and the “Upload Your Bill” page include a checkbox that lets you share your bill to help improve WattAttack's AI. Sharing is entirely optional. If the box is not checked when you upload, your bill is processed once and automatically deleted within 2 hours. It is never stored or used for training.

If you do opt in, we keep a copy of your bill in a separate, access-restricted folder. Before the bill is used for anything, we remove personally identifiable information from it, including your name, address, and account number. The anonymized copy may then be used to train or fine-tune the AI models that power WattAttack's bill analysis.

You don't have to take our word for it, either. You are welcome to black out your name, exact street address, and account number on the bill before uploading. The AI only needs the bill's structure, the usage and billing figures, and your general location (city or region) to learn from it.
